Meeting 4:

Because this was the first week of virtual teaching and classes, teachers had given all of us a ton of work on Google Classroom. This made it unrealistic to hold our virtual club meeting on a Friday when everyone was still doing homework that would be due at 11:30 pm the same day. We decided to tell our members on Instagram that we would move ibstART club to Saturday from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.

There was a smaller turnout this week, which was understandable because of virtual learning getting started that same week, but we made the most of our time together. We used different mediums than we did last week, a majority used colored pencils, while others used mediums like markers or glitter glue. Each of us used a reference inside our homes, with the intention of paying closer attention to things that we have that we often take for granted, or don't take a second glance at. The reason for this was because now that we are all in quarantine, we spend much more time at home, and we should take some time to pay attention to what is around us.

Below are the photographed references and final products. Some chose to use still life and realism, while others incorporated abstract concepts into their final pieces, along with exploring different angles of their reference.

Olivia: Again, there were fewer members this time, but this way we were much more concentrated on our own work, and focused on helping those who did attend. We were much more exploratory with our mediums since we now have the weekends completely free of homework and have more time. Additionally, because of the smaller number of people present on Houseparty, all of whom had iPhones, we were able to switch to Facetime and my connectivity became better, so did the audio.

Helen: Not having our club at school prevented us from talking to younger students to join our club, but at the end of the day for those who did join us for our video sessions, I think it was a good way to show that even when we begin our project with one thing in mind, it might end up being completely something else. And it did. But what I could say we did successfully was having our art club become a way to stay invigorated while also having fun during the pressing times of the Corona virus.
